What is a Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (Lap-Band) Surgery?

During a LAP band surgery, Dr. Ben-Meir places a silicone band around the top of your stomach to create a small pouch to help you feel full quickly. This band is attached to a port that is placed under the skin. The port allows the band to be adjusted as needed to help you feel full with a small amount of food. This procedure is done laparoscopically using five ¼-1/2 inch incisions.

What are the risks of a Lap-Band surgery?

Every surgery poses possible risks and complications. Possible risks with a Lap-Band surgery include:

  • Band slippage
  • Band erosion
  • Port/tubing issues
  • Esophageal dilation
  • Gastrointestinal leak
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Leg clots
  • Bleeding

What are the benefits of Lap-Band surgery?

Weight loss surgery can improve or resolve many health issues, such as type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea and high cholesterol. You’ll also gain the freedom to become an active, healthy participant in life rather than an onlooker.
